The Parish Finance Council is a consultative body of lay persons established to advise the pastor in matters pertaining to the financial affairs of the parish. It meets monthly and produces a quarterly financial report for the parish. Canon (Church) Law requires that “In each Parish there is to be a finance committee to help the parish priest in the administration of the goods of the parish.” (Code of Canon Law 537). The Parish Finance Committee is consulted before any major item of expenditure is incurred. They advise the Parish priest on the ongoing maintenance of the Church, Presbytery and Hall as well as overseeing any building projects on these.
On a continuing basis the Finance Committee is responsible for ensuring that proper records of income and expenditure are maintained and that an account of administration is given to the parishioners at the end of each financial year. The Finance Committee also has a responsibility to ensure that the parish income remains in line with rising costs. With this in mind the Committee continues to promote the Weekly Offertory Envelope Collection.
